Get Involved - Calendar of Events
The Watershed Council meets monthly on the 4th Monday, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., at the Clackamas County Bank auditorium at 38975 Proctor Blvd. in Sandy unless otherwise noted. Everyone is welcome to attend. We frequently have a guest speaker or program.

5 p.m.
"Salmon for the Sandy" Kick-off & Concert Celebration Jamison Square Park in Portland's Pearl District
Come see 33 spectacular salmon sculptures as they begin their migration around Portland and the region. In October the sculptures will be auctioned to benefit the Sandy River Basin Watershed Council's habitat restoration and education programs. Organized by the watershed council, Western Rivers Conservancy and Portland General Electric.

Beaver Creek Restoration Tour
Find out how native plants are being used to improve habitat along the creek at Mt. Hood Community College campus. Get some tips on how to get rid of invasive plants.

Native Plant Walk
Walk along a creek in the Zigzag area and learn about native plants. Get some ideas about which ones would be suitable for planting where you live.

Salmon Habitat Restoration Walk
Discover how large logs help create salmon habitat in the Clear Fork of the Sandy River.

Restoration Tip — If you've planted trees to restore part of your property they may need some summer watering during the first 1 to 2 years to help them get established.

Using water efficiently during the summer can help to maintain adequate stream flows for Fall Chinook salmon that can be seen in the Sandy River in October.

Hike the Salmon River Trail to explore the connections between old forests and the river.

Tour the Bull Run
Join the watershed council and the Portland Water Bureau for a tour of some habitat restoration sites plus part of the Bull Run watershed. $10. per person.


September 2007
September is a good time to pull English ivy so that you'll be ready to plant native plants when the fall rains begin in October.

Join the Bureau of Land Management staff to see habitat restoration work on this site that Western Rivers Conservancy set aside as open space in 2000.

October 2007
Tree Planting Projects will begin in late October - early November after there is enough rain to ensure good survival of the tree seedlings. Dates will be posted in October. You can volunteer to help plant trees.

Salmon Festival at Oxbow Park
Come celebrate the spawning of the large, fall Chinook salmon in the Sandy River. Find out about the connections between people and salmon and what you can do to help keep our watersheds healthy. Each year, over millennia, fall Chinook salmon have worked their way up the Columbia River to return to their birthplace in the Sandy River Gorge and give life to the next generation.
